Repent from your ways when you know you have sinned

There are many definitions tot the word sin. The first sin arose from disobedience. The word of God in the Bible says that sin is caused by the desire of the flesh also. Those who cannot control their urges, fall into the snares of sin. James 1:15 Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin.., E.g. King David saw Bathsheba while she was having a bath. It did not stop there. He looked at her again and again, with the full knowledge that she was someone’s wife. He satisfies his lust with her and eventually kills her husband. (2 Samuel 11: 1-27)

The Bible leads to redemption, repentance and forgiveness of sinners. Isaiah 1: 18-19 says, 18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,”
    says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
    they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
    they shall be like wool.
19 If you are willing and obedient,
    you will eat the good things of the land;

There are some who unknowingly fall into sin. We can describe them in two ways:

  1. A person bitten by a snake : When a person is bitten by a poisonous snake, we first tightly bind the area above the bite to prevent the poison from spreading. Next, the poison is sucked out by creating an incision or cut at the bite marks. Similarly, when we realize our wrongdoings, we should retrace our steps and repent. Those who have been bitten by snakes are told not to walk, run, or sleep because it increases blood circulation and can cause the poison to spread. If the person happens to sleep, he/she might never wake up. During sleep we are unconscious. Those who unconsciously commit sin should repent the moment they realize their folly.

To prevent snake bites, we should stay away from thick bushes, dark holes, and damp swamps. If this is possible then why don’t we stay away from the dangerous pits of sins and temptations? Snakes shed their skin from time to time. It seems easy to onlookers but it is a painful and torturous process. Yet every snake does it. God has blessed us with brain and wisdom. Thus we should introspect ourselves from time to time. When we realize we are sinning we should retrace our steps and repent. ( Colossians 3: 5-10, Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. We are renewed as a new creation and a new miracle. We read in Genesis that among all beasts and birds, it is only the snake that is considered as cunning. It sheds its skin from time to time but does not return to its old skin. Then why is it that man keeps repeating his/her sins?? How pitiful!! Galatians 6:8, Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

2) Getting on a wrong bus: Just like a person who gets on a wrong bus, immediately gets off the bus. Similarly, when a person commits sin, he/she gets warning from the conscience(conductor of our lives) to repent and move back. It asks us to seek advice or counsel from elders and parents or to seek help from the Bible. It will lead to the right path.

When we stand at a bus stop, there are so many buses on the road. Do we climb into anyone or we step into the bus that will take us to our destination? In the same way, think each day; do we do what is right and control our urges or do we indulge in our urges into whatever it wants. Blood can be purified through dialysis. But when the soul is polluted, how do we purify it?? Our body is like a soap bubble that can go to dust any moment and yet we take so much care of it. But do we care for our souls which does not die? There are five ways to protect our souls: Prayer, private conversation with God, Worship, Fasting, Confession & Communion, and last but not the least Acts of charity. Matthew 12: 43-45, 43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”

The decision is ours to make. Which path to take to :Our Lord or Satan?? The Saviour who waits with open hands to welcome or Satan to thrust us into the fire of hell. Galatians 5: 16-24,

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery;  20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

AMEN.
