Psalms 121:1-2, 1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
Everyone on earth seeks helps from some or the other in times of need. The great leader like Moses who led the people of Israel from Egypt too sought Yahweh for everything big and small. He did not depend on his physical prowess or intellect alone. He did not depend upon any human help. In the face of death from the Egyptian army and the vast sea in front, Moses did not falter. It was because of his deep trust and faith in the Lord. Exodus 14:13-14,13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
When King David looked around himself from the rampart of his castle, all he could see were the mountain range and their rooftops. He did not get scared or depressed seeing the sight. He lifted up his eyes up above the mountains. He lifted them up to the maker of the mountains. He praised the Lord who brought him from being a shepherd to being a king. He remembered the way he had left behind. He placed his trust in the Lord believing that He is the most powerful of all. Let us see what were the hopes of David:
1.The one who helps in the journey forward: David had full faith in the Lord who had led him so far. Hence he was able to look at the savior beyond this world. Let us think about ourselves. Where is our sight placed??? Like David or like Peter. Peter began his journey looking towards the Lord Jesus Christ. But when he lost sight of the Lord and looked at the world around him, he was about to sink. Psalms 73:2: 2 But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold.
1 Samuel 2:9, He will guard the feet of his faithful servants,
but the wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness. “It is not by strength that one prevails;
Is our helper and guide Lord Jesus??? Is our path the path of salvation??? Think. If Lord Jesus is our guide then even if our feet falter He will rush to our side and lead us back to the right path. Hebrews 13:5, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
2.The one who never falters: The person who cares and looks after a child the most is the mother. Has there been any incidence when mother has faltered?? Psalms 121:3-4, 3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
To deliver us sinner from sins He sent His only Son to pay price of our souls with His own life. Even though the world may leave us, He will never leave our side.
3. One who helps us in every situation: Psalms 121:5-7,
5 The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
Psalms 91: 2-7, I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
There are many waves and tides in the sea. Similarly, in the many waves and tides in our daily life the Lord almighty also guides us always in every situation. We know that the sea and the wind obey our Saviour. In Mark 6:31, 31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Let us also recharge ourselves by going to a place in silence and talk to Him in prayer.
Once an evangelist had to stay at night at an unknown place. He prayed to the Lord since he was alone at an unknown place. He took the Bible and opened it. What he got was Psalms 121. He read the part that said he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
He lifted up his eyes towards heaven and said, Lord you never sleep. You keep looking after me. Hence both of us need not be awake. Saying this he slept peacefully like a child.
Psalms 4:8, 8 In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, Lord,
make me dwell in safety.
Trust in the Lord and have faith He walk along every step.
